My It Things

Description: My It Things is a unique blogging platform and social network built from scratch that allows any user to create an account and submit content to the site. Editors and power users can then publish the UGC to the main section pages of the site’s magazine therefore creating an entirely UGC magazine. The platform is highly scalable and supports 200k monthly visitors with limited hardware in place.

The core of the property was developed during 4 months before going live at the end of 2007, on-going expansion over the last 2 years.

CMS: Custom development

Project Components:

  • The user lounge is the user’s personal section of the site (http://myitthings.com/yuli) and includes all content published by the user such as: blog, product reviews, videos, fans, activity feed, etc.
  • Custom CMS allows Editors and Power users to publish content such as blog posts into the magazine’s main pages directly from the site’s UI.
  • SEO best practices built directly into every page of the site and allow for high ranking and almost immediate indexing by search engines.
  • Affiliate networks integrated on the backend allow dynamic placement of affiliate network link placement on relevant pages.
  • Extensive RSS generators create unique RSS feed for each: Page, User, category, type, etc.
  • Video integration allows the editors to publish videos on blip.tv and those are populated into the site automatically.
  • Resource pages (such as: http://myitthings.com/Brands/Armani) collect content relevant to a specific topic to create a high SEO value page.
  • Contest platform allows the editorial team to create new contests and giveaways without dealing with code or development.

Description: Scope of project included: product research and specification, UI design (screenshots into a functional UI), data architecture, CMS and API integration, Widget development, etc.

New property built out during 4 months of intensive work with a hard deadline.

CMS: EPiServer Relate Plus

Integration: Facebook Connect, Twitter API, allforgood.org API, blip.tv, clearspring.com

Project Components:

  • Website managed completely through CMS system, creation and update: pages, content and users.
  • Social network built on the CMS social graph infrastructure,  custom integration of Facebook connect and Twitter oAuth that lets users use their Facebook/Twitter account on the site then feeds the user input back to the social network.
  • ‘Share Plans’ section allows users to create UGC and share it via social networks.
  • Filtering mechanism that allows excluding words in UGC that were deemed inappropriate.
  • Project search section that queries allforgood.org API.
  • Event RSVP system allows multiple event invites and variable guests and registration flows.

  • Website complete with self service CMS that allows the editorial team to create and edit any page on the site.
  • Backend services that aggregate RSS feeds and stores their content into a custom CMS, the CMS allows the sharing and tracking of content across members of the organization.
  • Event system that allows the: creation of event, invitation of guests, RSVP registration, and confirmation emails.
  • Campaign mechanism that issues unique tracking to each member and creative asset (impressions and clicks).
  • Widgets allow the sharing of content aggregated by backend services.

  • Search tool (for internal use) across all aggregated content.
  • Membership management allows each user to create and update their profile and services; admin role can manage all members and exclude them from any service.
